How to Join & Play

Short guide for new players & a quick ruleset for everyone.

Getting started with UT99

Unreal Tournament 99 can be downloaded legally and for free from OldUnreal, the officially endorsed preservation project supported by Epic Games. Follow these steps to install the game and join any TeamFBI server.

1. Download Unreal Tournament (GOTY Edition)

We recommend the Game of the Year Edition for maximum compatibility.

2. Install the latest OldUnreal Patch (included in the full game installer)

The modern UT99 patch provides improved stability, security updates, new renderers (DirectX11, XOpenGL), bugfixes and full compatibility with modern operating systems.

3. Enable the UT99 join protocol

TeamFBI servers can be joined directly from the website using the unreal:// protocol. If you click “Join server” and nothing happens, open UT99 once manually and allow the protocol when your browser asks for permission.

Alternatively: In UT99 go to Multiplayer → Open Location and paste the server address, for example: 

unreal://109.123.250.228:7777

4. Join a TeamFBI server

Scroll up to the server list and choose any game mode you like. From MonsterHunt to Sniper DeathMatch – clicking “Join Server” connects you instantly.
